Material Shop is one of the leading sellers of architectural and interior design materials. With a growing portfolio of work, the aim of the new site was to effectively showcase their products and projects in a highly immersive experience; coupling elegant transitions with an intuitive user interface.
The first step was to identify the client's needs. We began by questioning what type of information the different user groups look for and how this information should be displayed. Because everything on the web is dynamic, ever–changing and often complex we broke down the website to basic components combined with a variety of needs. Projects were intended for the architectural and interior industries and products for customers.
The original website was a complex build. Our challenge was to migrate the data from the current site to Drupal CMS platform. We began by carrying out a full audit of the website codebase, site structure and all the dependencies, including modules and 3rd party integrations.
We recommended to develop the new site on top of Drupal Commerce's scalable structure, without any actual e–shop functionality at this point in time. The strategy of rebuilding the website on this distribution, would allow for future expansion of the website to a fully fledged online commerce store, with the addition of cart, checkout flow, shipping and online payments.
To ensure optimal experience when trawling through the vast catalogue of products, we developed an advanced search mechanism, thanks to the Drupal Search API. Drupal Search API is an extension that provides an advanced way of indexing products. Because of this functionality, fetching and presenting the products on the website was seamless and lighting fast. By leveraging from the powers of search facets, we enabled dynamic filtering on products. Facets are dynamic filters, allowing users to search products by attributes and variations.
Based around the idea of discovery, our team conceived and prototyped an innovative and unique user experience. The design centers around the user and follows a sleek and minimal structure.
